This innovative new model from Ferrari is the company’s first series production PHEV – Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle – sharing its name with the SF90 Formula One car, with SF standing for the Scuderia Ferrari racing team, 90 for the 90th anniversary, and ‘Stradale’ translating to road.
Not only is its design something truly stunning, with a futuristic touch combined with the traditional Ferrari looks, but the performance is what will really blow your mind. With a total dry weight of only 1570 kg it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 340 km/h. The all-wheel drive Ferrari SF90 Stradale is powered by a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8, producing 769 bhp at 7,500 rpm, and in addition to that the car also has three electric motors, with a combined power output of 217 bhp. Add it up and you find yourself behind the wheel of an almost 1000 horsepower supercar – or perhaps it is fair to say we are now in hypercar territory – with 800 Nm of torque making it one of the fastest road cars one can ever experience.
The new 8-speed dual clutch gearbox offers a 30% faster shifting time than the 7-speed, found in many Ferrari models, has. This is due to the 8-speed gearbox not having a reverse gear which results in it being both more compact and 10kg lighter – instead the reverse gear is operated by the electric motors that are mounted to the front axle. The electric range is 26 km – enough for a trip to the local supermarket and back – and it has four different driving modes. Select eDrive on the eManettino knob on the steering wheel, and the Ferrari SF90 Stradale will run only on the electric motors. Switch to the Hybrid mode, which is also the car’s default mode, and both runs the V8 and the electric motors will be used. The enthusiastic driver will find themselves mostly in the Performance mode, which always keeps the engine running in order to charge the batteries, and gives you optimum performance at all times. And once you get to those twisty mountain passes in the Provencal back country or the high Alps you’ll make the switch to Qualify mode, which uses that remarkable powertrain to its full potential…
